Types of Personal Computers

  1. IBM type PC
  2. Apple Computer type PC’s

IBM type PC (PC)

The IBM type PC is commonly known as the "PC". It is the most commonly used PC in the world today and general purpose and business software is most often written and sold for the PC.

Due to the availability of PC hardware and software, the PC is generally less expensive than the Apple type PC’s.

Apple type PC’s (Mac)

The "Mac" type PC’s are often used in an educational setting, or by experts in graphics. This is because Apple gave large numbers of Mac’s to educational institutions in the late 1980’s and early 90’s and captured that market.

Safety

Electrical Shock: Disconnect all power cords including the printer, monitor and speakers from the wall outlet. Disconnect all cords and cables from the computer system "box" or chassis.

Static Electricity: The delicate items inside the "box" that handle high speed bits and bytes require extra care in handling to avoid damage from static electricity due to extreme sensitivity to low voltage. Don’t walk across a carpet carrying these items. Touch a light switch to ground yourself before handling these items. Store items in static proof bags provided for that purpose.
