Old Fogies Guide To Computers©®
Course Philosophy

The course will allow you to learn the fundamentals of using a computer, and provide you with the resources to continue learning more about computers if you so desire. The course will not "dwell" on "buz-words", and you will not get deeply into the details of any specific software. It will be up to you to continue learning more about specific computer software that you might want to use.

We have learned over the years that the primary reason why people, and in particular "Seniors" don’t use computers is because they are not familiar with them and are , indeed, afraid of them..

This course will allow you to overcome any fear that you might have by giving you the opportunity to "play" with the computer starting with the hardware and continuing throughout the course . Each segment of the course will be followed by a lab when you will put into practice what you have learned by exercising a computer according to a check list that will be provided.

We want you to have fun at the same time that you are learning. We will try to proceed at a relaxed pace and will take the time to respond to specific questions. However, if you have "off-topic" questions, please hold them until 11:00am. An instructor or instructors will hang around until 12:00pm to help with specific problems and to try to answer specific questions.

When you finish this course you will not be a computer "geek". However, you will be a person that is basically computer literate with a positive attitude towards the technology that is changing the world.

Finally, we encourage you to bring your own computer, if you have one, to future classes so that you will learn more about the specifics of your computer and software.
