What's In The Computer
- Hard drive or disk
-The devise where programs and files are stored for future use.
- Floppy drive or disk
-The devise that takes a removable "floppy disk that can contain programs and files.
- Drive ribbon cables
-Connects the devises to the main computer board, or system board.
- Add-in-card
-The cards that are added to the "system" that enables the computer to do other tasks such as multimedia and telephone line access.
- Add-in-card "Slot"
-This is the slot that plugs the "Add-in cards to the "system" or "Mother Board". There are different types of "Slots" so you must know what you are doing when you buy "Add-in Cards". If you have a newer computer, can’t go wrong by purchasing "IDE", "ISA", or "PCI" type cards.
- Key Board Interface
-There are two types of plugs that come attached to a keyboard. The first is a small one quarter inch round plug and the second is a larger one half inch round plug. There are adapters available to convert one to the other. Be extremely careful to fit the "slot" in the plug to the "slot" in the interface.
- Power Supply
-The devise that converts the power from your wall outlet to the power that the devises on your computer can handle. The various cords coming off of the power supply are of different sizes so that it is difficult to connect an incorrect power source to the individual devises.
