Two former Sinclair Community College faculty members, Ralph D. Rust of Eaton and John W. "Jack" Snyder of Randolph Township, will be awarded Professor Emeritus status at the college's 30th annual commencement Saturday, June 15.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the University of Dayton Arena. More than 800 graduating students, and Sinclair Board members, faculty, professional staff and administration will take part.
Professor Rust taught at Sinclair for 30 years, beginning in 1965. He was the first department chairperson of the Accounting Department and developed many of the accounting courses, such as cost accounting and auditing. Professor Rust developed the computer courses in the accounting curriculum and was the founder of the Accounting Club.
Professor Rust was an active member of the Financial Executives Institute, the Ohio Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, the American Accounting Association, and the Ohio Association of Two Year College Accounting Faculty. He served on the Board of Directors of the Financial Executives Institute and various committees of the Dayton Chapter of CPAs.
Professor Snyder taught mathematics for 29 years, beginning in 1966. He was chairperson of mathematics for 20 years. As a classroom instructor, he taught a wide range of courses, including calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra. During his tenure as chairperson, Professor Snyder got the mathematics department involved with TV Sinclair and he developed a substantive plan for assessing student academic achievement.
Professor Snyder led one of the largest academic departments of the college. He actively participated as a mentor in Sinclair's Grow Your Own, minority faculty development program. Professor Snyder was an active member of the Dayton Council of Teachers of Math.
