Bowling names Copen publisher

Vernon T. (Jack) Bowling, president/publisher of Bowling -Moorman Newspapers has announced the appointment of David E. Copen as publisher of Bowling-Moorman Newspapers Mr. Bowling, founder of the operation more than 30 years ago will continue to be active as president and chairman of the board of directors of the corporation.

He said the management change will allow him more time to concentrate on development of the newspapers from a long term perspective from the corporate offices in Tipp City. Mr. Bowling said that Mr. Copen has proven himself to be valuable" "and very competent."

Mr. Bowling noted that Copen came to Bowling-Moorman about nine years ago with little newspaper experience and has done an excellent job as assistant publisher and general manager.

Mr. Bowling said the corporation plans to hire a general manager at a later date.

Mr. Copen is a native of West Virginia and received his public school education in Belpre, Ohio. He then attended West Virginia University where he was a member of the basketball team for three years. He completed his education in marketing and advertising at the University of Notre Dame following four years of active service in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era

Mr. Copen operated a large appliance, television and recreational vehicle business in Montana before coming to Bowling-Moorman as assistant publisher in 1987.

He is a member of the Ohio Task Force on Recycling. Mr. Copen was named to the Ohio Newspaper Recycling Task Force as an appointee of Gov. George Voinovich at its inception in 1990 and continues to serve in the Ohio Newspaper Association.

Bowling-Moorman Newspapers publishes the Tipp City Herald Troy Advocate, West Milton Record, Englewood Independent, Trotwood Independent, Vandalia Drummer News, Huber Heights Courier and the New Carlisle Sun.

In addition to publishing the newspapers each week, Bowling-Moorman Publications, Inc., also publishes a wide variety of publications for public and private sectors.
