Mayor’s Math Not Accurate

Dear Editor:

I am writing after reading Englewood Mayor Ed Kemper's latest blast of mis-information in his letter published in last week's Independent.

While I am sure others will, at the appropriate time, address other obvious "errors" in the mayor's letter, I take exception to his "Englewood Math" concerning the Police department staffing levels. He says that, "as an example, Englewood has 17 full-time sworn police officers, while the township and Clayton, combined, have only half as many.” This would equate to the combined departments having 8.5 full time officers between them, when in fact they have 13 full-time officers between them.

He also fails to mention that combined, the two Departments have 15 part-time officers to Englewood's two or three part-time officers.

The mayor is being very critical of a report that has not yet been written . I am sure that this report. when completed will address fully the critical issues. In the meantime, I must take immediate issue with the mayor's math on his police department comparisons.
