The only way to judge the future
is by the past, and according SJ
Meyer and Associates, Inc.'s(click to visit their web page) past,
expansion is required for the future.
SJM of Englewood celebrated a
groundbreaking for its new location
at 390 Hulls Drive last Wednesday
with appearances made by the
owner Steve Meyer, his wife
Teresa, his two children, employees
and Englewood city officials.
The expected completion date for
the new building is August.
Presently located on Taywood,
Meyer has decided to move in to the
Englewood West I-70/Commercial
Park because of the rate at which his
business is currently expanding.
"We are busting at the seams,"
said Meyer. "We are moving
because we have grown out of our
current facilities."
The new building, which will be
3850 square feet and is considerably
larger than their current location,
will house Meyer, his associates
John Skolnicki. Cheryl Flood and
Theresa Smith, along with nine
other employees. No decisions
have been made yet as to whether
more employees will be hired, and
if so, how many.
Skolnicki and Flood are both
certified public accountants who
deal primarily with corporate
financial statements and tax returns.
Smith, who is an accountant, is in
charge of handling the accounting
services for small business and
some tax rerunls.
"I am really excited about the
move, " said Meyer. "In fact,
'everybody seems to be excited
about the move because it will
allow us to expand our services and
number of clients."
SJM gains 25 percent of its
business from clients who are health
care professionals, 25 percent from
real estate and construction, while
the rest is primarily small privately
owned business and individuals.
The public accountants of SJM
place an emphasis on tax
consulting, business and personal
financial planners and business
advisory, said Meyer. They also
participate in evaluation work for
closely held businesses, which is
when a business is owned by one or
two owners or when the stock is
held entirely by one family or a few
people.
"We are all very excited." said
Smith. "After being scrunched, we
will have lots of room with
windows that open."
The new building will be built
with better technology than their
current location, with more phone
lines, voice mail and wired for the
Internet.
Skolnicki said, "After two years
it is time to move. Steve has
planned for the future and plans for
more technology and more efficient
use of this higher technology."
Flood is excited about the move
because SJM will have a fresh start.
"We are all looking forward to the
added space." said Flood. "It
allows for us to start over fresh and
get organized. I think the move will
be helpful to the entire office."
Meyer, a resident of Clayton and
owner of SJM, graduated from St.
Joseph in Renseleer, Ind. with a
business degree in 1977. Originally
from Fort Loramie. Meyer and his
family moved to the Northmont area
in 1984.
Since his arrival, Meyer has
served the Northmont community
by participating as president of the
Northmont Rotary in 1991, as a
trustee of the Northmont Education
foundation (NEF) and as a trustee
for the Englewood/Northmont Chamber of
Commerce.
Meyer is currently serving
Clayton by being a member of the
Community Improvement
Corporation for the New City of
Clayton (CIC). Meyer is also
presently serving on the Parish
Council for St. Paul's.
